This is a classic Victorian-era box made from warm, figured walnut. It’s a great example of Tunbridge-style marquetry, featuring those intricate, hand-set geometric “parquetry” bands that collectors love. It has a real sense of history and that “library” feel that works so well in a modern home.
- The Details: Beautiful diamond inlay on the top and a matching one around the keyhole.
- The Condition: It’s an honest antique. As you can see in the photos, there is a small section of the decorative inlay missing along the top front edge, and the wood has some natural “foxing” (dark spots) and surface wear that only adds to its 150-year-old story.
