Antique solid mahogany box with finely dovetailed corners, brass escutcheon, working key and removable fitted tray. The lid carries an old oval brass name plaque engraved “W. C. Fox Esq”, suggesting it was originally made as a personal gentleman’s box, possibly for writing accessories, jewellery, documents or valuables. The interior retains its removable tray with storage space beneath, while the exterior has developed a warm aged patina with marks and wear consistent with long use.
