Rare Large Loetz “Crete Chine” Art Nouveau Iridescent Threaded Glass Centerpiece Bowl Vase, c.1900

£550.00

An exceptional, investment-grade example of early Bohemian Art Nouveau art glass manufactured by the renowned Loetz Witwe glassworks (Klostermühle, Bohemia) circa 1897–1900. This monumental vessel is executed in the highly sought-after “Crete Chine” (Creta Chiné) decor, characterized by its deep, translucent “Crete” green glass body enveloped entirely by an organic, intricately applied web of iridescent glass threading.
Design & Form
Unlike standard, small cabinet vases, this piece boasts a rare and commanding tabletop presence. The body features a bulbous, heavily dimpled, four-sided square form that rises to a cleanly fire-polished, flared square rim. The exterior texturing catches the light beautifully, casting a subtle metallic, oil-slick iridescence typical of elite Turn-of-the-Century Bohemian glass. The underside features a flawlessly executed, smooth, ground, and highly polished pontil mark. As is historically correct for authentic production of this era, the piece was originally issued with a temporary paper label and does not bear any permanent base signatures or acid-etched marks.
Dimensions
  • Width: 33 cm (13 inches)
  • Height: 19 cm (7.5 inches)
Condition Report
Excellent antique condition overall. The internal fire-polished glass is beautifully preserved with excellent colour clarity. The extensive external trailing and glass threads remain remarkably complete across the wide shoulders, showing only minimal, age-appropriate micro-wear consistent with a 125-year-old masterpiece. No structural cracks, chips, or restorations at all.
